Marathon
To all those who is interested in the Deutsche Weinstrasse Marathon
Did you enjoy the Deutsche Weinstraße Marathon?
If so, then do come back to the Palatinate, this time to Neustadt an der Weinstraße, in order to take part in the Hambach-Castle-Marathon (there is also going to take place a half-marathon) which is going to markt the beginning of the ceremonies on the occasion of the 175th Anniversary of Hambach Festival of 1832.
At the time, on 27th May 1832, 30.000 people repeating the slogan of "all patriots up to the castle" moved uphill and assembled in the Hambach castle grounds in order to demonstrate for freedom, civil rihgts and national unity. This was the beginning of German Democracy.

The Hambach-Castle-Marathon takes the same itinerary as the protest march from the town centre along some 5 kms to the Castle lying some 150 metres higher up and from there through the nine villages forming the outskirts of Neustadt an der Weinstraße back to the starting point.
Quite close up to the start and end of the marathon there are:
- 2000 parking spaces
- parking spaces for motor caravans
- suburban railway stop Böbig (free transport within the VRN area on showing receipt of participiation)
- 4 sport halls with changing rooms and showers
Considering the fact that Neustadt an der Weinstraße as organizers have followed the example of Bockenheim Marathon Deutsche Weinstraße when choosing the 1st weekend of April as time for the marathon, we do hope that many runners, who have come to the Wine Road for years, will be able to come to the Palatinate in 2007, too.
